Questions and answers

Honestly? Register, add as much content as you can, and stay engaged.

That's not a brush-off — it's the actual answer. The more listings, posts, and activity on the platform, the more useful it is for the next Veteran who shows up looking for something real. And since new features are being added regularly, staying engaged means you'll actually get to use them as they roll out, instead of coming back in a year to a platform that passed you by.

If you own a Veteran Venture, listing it is the single highest-impact thing you can do — it's the whole reason the directory exists.

The website itself is free and public for everyone — anyone can browse the directory, read the blog, or listen to VeteranFM without paying anything or even creating an account.

Signing up for a VeteranDB account is also free, and the base plan covers a lot of ground:

  • List your Veteran Venture. Create a listing for your business, nonprofit, podcast, or whatever fits — the people searching for it are already here.
  • Get a website badge. Create a widget for your own site that shows you're part of the VeteranDB community. It links back to your specific listing.
  • Publish content. Write blog posts, press releases, and more directly through your account.

Paid tiers are coming, but aren't live yet. When they launch, they'll unlock things new features down the line. Things like selling product in the Exchange, selling courses in our education/training center, possibly selling magazines/ books, or maybe even creating job listings, networking events, etc. The possibilities are endless, so long as we build everything to last.

Depends on which side of it you're on:

  • Own a business or run a nonprofit? Get a listing in front of an audience specifically looking for Veteran-run organizations to support — visibility you'd otherwise have to build from scratch.
  • Looking to spend your money or time with Veteran-owned operations? The directory and nonprofit listings exist so you don't have to dig through generic search results hoping you stumble onto one.
  • Want good content? The blog and magazine carry stories, interviews, and writing from the community itself, and VeteranFM gives you something to listen to that isn't produced by people guessing at what Veteran life is actually like.
  • Want to buy something? Exchange and Gear stores are stocked with products made by Veteran-owned brands instead of routing that money somewhere generic.

The common thread: whatever you came here for, it connects you to something actually run by someone who served, or their family — not something that just markets to people who did.

Jared Ledbetter, a USMC Veteran, started VeteranDB because he kept running into the same problem: everything Veteran-owned or Veteran-focused — the businesses, the nonprofits, the shows, the stories — existed, but nowhere in one place you could actually find it.

So he built one.

The initial idea was closer to an IMDb for Veteran business and entertainment — a straightforward listing site, nothing more ambitious than getting it in front of people.

It grew past that almost by accident. What started as a simple directory turned into a platform with real infrastructure behind it — accounts, organizations, a CMS, its own stores — because the community kept showing up and kept needing more than a list of names.

That's the honest version of the origin story: it wasn't planned out from day one as "we're building a platform." It was a Veteran solving a problem he personally had, and it kept growing because the need was real.

VeteranDB isn't a single thing — it's a hub that ties together everything happening in the veteran business and entertainment world under one roof.

100% veteran-owned and operated. That's not a tagline — it shapes every decision about what gets built and in what order.

On any given day, VeteranDB is:

  • A business directory for finding veteran-owned companies
  • A nonprofit directory connecting people to veteran service organizations
  • VeteranFM, a podcast network
  • A blog and magazine full of stories written by and for veterans
  • Two storefronts — Exchange and Gear — selling veteran-made products
  • So much more.

There's a mobile app so it travels with you, and an active presence across Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, X, Reddit, and YouTube so the community isn't boxed into one channel.

If something is built by veterans, run by veterans, or made for veterans, the goal is that it has a home here — instead of being scattered across a dozen disconnected places online.

Make yourself
part of it.
